About Project 39A

Project 39A is a formal part of NLU Delhi and undertakes research and pro bono litigation efforts on issues concerning the criminal justice system in India. This effort is inspired by Article 39-A of the Indian Constitution and uses empirical research as an integral part of re-examining the criminal justice system. The National Law University, Delhi is a National Law University in India, offering courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with the primary objective of evolving and imparting comprehensive and interdisciplinary legal education that is socially relevant.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and litigation initiatives in significant areas of criminal justice and human rights law.
  • Work on areas such as death penalty, forensic science, legal aid, mental health and criminal justice, and torture.

Interns at Project 39A will have the opportunity to work on various projects and contribute to the research and litigation efforts of the organisation. The experience will provide valuable exposure to the complexities and nuances of the criminal justice system in India.

  • The internship is open to students in India and other countries enrolled in a recognised undergraduate or post-graduate programme in Law, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management, Media & Communications, or other disciplines.
