About Centre for Criminology and Justice

Centre for Criminology and Justice is a part of the School of Social Work, TISS. It has a field action project called Prayas, which aims at socio-legal and economic rehabilitation of persons who are at risk of being criminalized, exploited for commercial sex, and those in destitute states. The project was initiated in 1990 and has been working towards the rehabilitation of disadvantaged groups. Mumbai, being a major urban centre, has a significant number of such groups, and the Centre’s work is crucial in this context.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualising research, undertaking data collection and analysis, report writing and publication
  • Utilising research skills for the project
  • Working effectively in teams as well as independently
  • Meeting deadlines and travelling within and between states as required

Interns at research institutions in India are commonly involved in data collection, analysis, and report writing. Exposure to various research software and tools is particularly valuable for those pursuing a career in social sciences or research.

Eligibility

  • Masters in Social Sciences
  • Candidates with Masters in Social Work, Sociology, Social Sciences or Law
  • Candidates with Ph. D. or near completion of their Ph. D. are preferred
  • Research skills and good writing skills
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research software
  • Good command over spoken Hindi and spoken and written English. Knowledge of Marathi will be an added advantage

This role is best suited for candidates with a strong background in social sciences, who are looking to work in a research-oriented position.

Stipend / Compensation

₹70,000 per month (consolidated)

Duration & Location

The contract is for 12 months, which can be extended based on performance. The location of the job is Mumbai.
