About Department of Revenue

The Department of Revenue has a mandate to carry out tax reforms in the country, actively pursuing work related to the introduction of Goods and Services Tax. The Department is expected to subsume a large number of Central taxes and State taxes and levies. New Delhi, being the capital, is a hub for such policy-making and implementation.

The city is home to various government institutions and think tanks that work closely with the Department of Revenue, providing a unique opportunity for interns to engage with experts in the field of public finance and economics.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Interns will be attached to the D.S./Director in the State Taxes Division of the Department.
  • Interns will be required to present a report/paper at the end of their internship to the State Taxes Division.
  • A certificate will be issued to the interns at the end of their internship.

Interns at government institutions like the Department of Revenue are commonly involved in research, data analysis, and policy drafting. Exposure to the development of tax reforms like the Goods and Services Tax is particularly valuable for those pursuing a career in public finance or economics.

Eligibility

  • Candidates possessing a first-class graduate degree or pursuing postgraduation in Economics/Finance/Management.
  • Candidates having a high second-class postgraduate degree or pursuing research courses in Economics/Finance/Management.
  • Students pursuing a 5-year integrated course in law from National Law Schools.

This role is best suited for students in their 3rd/4th/5th year pursuing a career in public finance, economics, or management.

Stipend / Compensation

A token remuneration of Rs. 5,000 per month.

Duration & Location

The duration of the internship will be a maximum of 6 months at different points of time during the year, located in New Delhi.
